On July 6, 2014, Carmen Gonzales started dancing in Heaven in the arms of her husband, Enocencio “Chencho” Gonzales. He waited 16 years for her to join him in the presence of our Lord and all her loved ones who had gone before her. Carmen was born on April 27, in El Reno, OK to Leo and Pauline (Seymore) Sanchez, who preceded her in death. At age 14, in Texas, she met the love of her life, the cute guy with the pretty hazel eyes, Chencho. These “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane” married on Dec. 1, 1955 in Pleasanton, Texas. After five years of marriage, they had a daughter, Renee (Andres) Cano. She was the only one honored to have called them Daddy and Momma. In 1976, the three of them moved to Flint, MI. She worked for years as a cashier at various “Mom & Pop” grocery stores and retired in 1981. Carmen and Chencho were so proud and ecstatic each time they became grandparents. Kristopher (Amanda) Gonzales, Michael (Kristin) Gonzales, Jessica (Adam) Kohn were everything any grandparent could ever wish for. Carmen was able to enjoy being a Great-Grandma to Karmen (her namesake), Arianna, Liliona, and Avery. Not only was she a grandma to these wonderful familia members, she was an “adopted” grandmother to numerous others. Carmen was full-of-life, loved life to the fullest and fought a grand fight. Her wacky humor entertained us for years and she filled our lives with joy and laughter, unconditional love, familia unity, and wanting to feed everyone who came to her home. She fiercely loved her familia and always wanted to take care of them, even down to her last hours. So many people were touched by her generosity, loving way, who lit up everyone’s lives. She was a beautiful, courageous, woman who accepted you as you were, never sat in judgment and was an awesome story teller and listener. How Blessed we all were to have had such a unique woman, with her twinkle in her eye, and smile on her face, in our lives. In addition to her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandgirls, Carmen is also survived by her loving sister and special “brother”, Jessie (Leandro) Lambaria and loving sister Patricia (Roy) Halbert. She has several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Special nieces and nephews, Angie (Alex) Hilburn, Mary (David) Lambaria-Simpson, Michelle (Chris, Shina), Joe (Amanda) Romero, Carlos (Anna) Romero, Diana (Ricky) Lopez, Peggy Sanchez. Celebrating her arrival in Heaven, are her sister, Rosie, brothers, Jr. and Philip, nephew Sonny. She is also survived by her granddog, Bravo, great-granddogs, Buddy, Max and Bobby.
